Winter feels like such a long season, and spring is so short. The signs of spring start to show up but it still feels like spring will never arrive. The trees are budding, the birds have returned, our strawberry plants have popped through, and the days are getting longer. The signs show that spring is near, but the weather is still chilly, the ground frosted most mornings, and occasionally there is a snow flurry. Spring are you still coming?
Our homestead has no livestock, so the winter has little homesteading to be done with no animals to tend to other than our household pets. I pass my time with knitting, baking, and growing a small hydroponic garden with lettuce and tomatoes. This winter I even picked up crotchet to expand my crafting potential. But still, I long for spring and wonder, Spring are you still coming?
April is finally here, and our last frost date is at the end of this month. We have started quite a few things indoors and will soon be transplanting the cabbage and onion to our garden bed, if only the weather would cooperate. This week has been full of rain and potential hail and so we wait. Radish and lettuce were directly sowed in the garden last week but have yet to pop through, and so we wait. Spring, are you still coming?
I know spring will arrive. It happens every year. Winter will finally come to an end and the trees will have leaves, flowers will bloom, and our plants will grow. Every year it is hard to be patient and we always ask: Spring, are you still coming?
